We’ve brought the MESS ROOM to Rochester Sweeps 2026!

Our Teamies got stuck into funky foam mosaic making and spent time on the doodle den table experimenting and designing. We’ve loved seeing all your creations so far. Catch us in the Cathedral car park - here till 6pm!

We hope you’ve all had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and enjoyed the Rochester Sweeps Festival if you came along!

Video description: a series of short clips showing the process of today’s Rochester Sweeps activities. We have lots of colourful drawings across large runs of white paper. Funky foam mosaic making on black mount boards. The video shows some finished pieces as well as work in progress. Cats have been the popular theme across today.
It was our second Kent Association for the Blind Art Group session today, and the MESS ROOM was full of soapy bubbles. @kabartgroups

Lead artist Catriona Faulkner was teaching the group all about wet felting. Playing with a colour palette fit for our project theme, “Tides”.

The KAB artists set to work on making their very own pieces of felted fabric. Layering the loose felt on sushi mats, coating it in water and soap, and then rubbing it together.

Everyone finished the session with their very own handmade fabric samples.

A series of short clips highlighting the progression of today’s KAB Art Group. Artists Catriona and Shona can be seen helping the artists wet felt their work. Small pieces of loose felt are torn and layered on top of a sushi mat. Once covered in the coloured felt, water is poured over the felt to flatten it. Next, the mat is rolled, adding soap to the mat on each turn. Once fully rolled, the mat is rubbed together, pushing the fibres together. The end result is that of flat, multicoloured pieces of fabric.
It's the last few days to catch our MESS ROOM Creatives River Medway Journeys exhibition at Chatham Dockyard.

Open Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 4pm each day.
LAST DAY: 13th April, 2026.
More information can be found via The Dockyard website: https://thedockyard.co.uk/events/river-medway-journeys/

Mess Room Creatives artists have designed and crafted a striking series of pennant flags. Inspired by the River Medway and its rich history, each piece reflects themes of heritage, movement, connection and pride in place. Together, they form a bold and uplifting collective installation.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported by Chatham Dockyard, Medway Council, MidKent College and Medway School of Arts, this project celebrates inclusive creativity and showcases the extraordinary talent within our Mess Room community.
