MESS ROOM Connects: Celebration

A Showcase of Community Creativity

MARCH 2025

MESS ROOM Connects: Celebration - An inspiring visual arts exhibition celebrating a year of creative achievements, featuring artwork by over 60 artists from Kent Association for the Blind Art Groups and Peer Arts.

the culmination of a fantastic 12-month journey

We’re so excited to welcome you to the exhibition of MESS ROOM Connects. This exhibition marks the culmination of a fantastic 12-month journey supported by National Lottery Project Grant funding from Arts Council England. Also in partnership with Rochester Cathedral, KAB, Gravesham Borough Council, The Amelia Scott, The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge and Medway Council.

Over the past year, we’ve collaborated, learned, and created — and now it’s time to celebrate our collective achievements at the Creation Space in Sun Pier House.

“This exhibition is a real celebration - it's tactile, it's exciting, it's vibrant! Co-creation is at the heart of everything we do - I ask the participants to trust me, developing ideas and finding methods that they feel confident using - always person centred. Just wait till you see what we have achieved!”Wendy Daws

A Showcase of Community Creativity

This exhibition is a vibrant reflection of the artistic journeys taken by MESS ROOM participants. We’ve worked closely with Kent Association for the Blind (KAB) members, local artists, and our Peer Arts groups to present a dynamic, tactile collection that welcomes everyone to engage with and enjoy art in their own way.

The Impact of Participatory Arts

This exhibition is more than an art display—it’s a celebration of community, co-creation, and inclusion. Participatory arts create spaces where people can connect, express themselves, and share experiences in meaningful ways. MESS ROOM Connects has championed art as a tool for expression, confidence-building, and social connection. This ensures that creative opportunities are accessible to all.

By working alongside blind and partially sighted artists, we’ve explored ways to make art more inclusive. We use touch and storytelling to offer a truly tactile experience. Rather than adapting art as an afterthought, we’ve embraced diverse ways of engaging with creativity, ensuring that everyone can participate on equal terms.

“I feel at home here, it's peaceful and helps me relax, I found something that can help take my mind off some of my life challenges.”KAB participant
